Vanilla ingredients for homemade vanilla syrup recipe

Easy Homemade Vanilla Syrup

Easy homemade vanilla syrup for coffee, iced lattes, cold brew, tea, and cold foam.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: About 1 cup 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • Small pinch of salt, optional

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3–5 minutes.
  4. Remove from the heat and cool for a few minutes.
  5. Stir in vanilla extract and optional salt.
  6. Cool, transfer to a clean covered container, and refrigerate.

Notes

For coffee, start with 1 tablespoon per 8–12 ounce drink and adjust to taste. For vanilla bean syrup, replace the extract with one split vanilla bean and simmer the seeds and pod with the syrup. Refrigerate homemade syrup and use within about 2 weeks for best quality.
